Societe Giennoise de Chaudronnerie (SGC) was established in 1978 and specialises in precision sheet metalwork. The company is based in the central Loire Valley region of France and services a wide range of industry sectors including HVAC, aerospace, household and industrial appliances, automotive, defence and lighting. The company offers both small and large volume manufacturing to its customers with production methods including punching and shearing, laser cutting, pressing, bending, deburring and surface treatment. Assembly, packaging and labelling services are also available.

Clients include high profile names such as General Electric and OTIS. It was customer demand for 3D quality control reports to ensure the accuracy of parts which led SGC to seek an alternative to the basic measuring tools such as calipers they were using for inspection. SGC decided they needed to invest in a 3D machine which was fast and easy to use.

Sylvain Huteau, Technical Director at SGC, thoroughly researched the options and saw the InspecVision Planar machine at the Euroblech exhibition in Germany. Prior to installing the Planar with Opti-Scan, first article inspection was carried out by a quality technician and could take more than 15 minutes “because he can’t be everywhere at the same time”. Mr. Huteau explained that “with the Planar machine every operator can make this control by themselves and it takes 2 minutes maximum”.

Mr. Huteau commented that the Planar machine is easy to use and “every operator can use it if it’s already programmed. For a new programme it’s less easy for everyone but quite simple when you’ve had the complete training”. Every operator who has completed a basic training with their technician uses the machine.

SGC inspect approximately 200 parts per week and the machine has ensured that their customers renewed their contracts “because now we can certify to our customers that our parts are very accurate”.

The Planar machine has no moving parts. Sylvain Huteau explained that this made the machine easy to support. When they had a problem the support was very good and issues were quickly resolved by the InspecVision support team.

Mr. Huteau stated that they were so satisfied with the machine that they provided a demo and reference to another company who were considering investing in one.
